Rush - Alexander

The scribe is in receipt of a letter received recently from Mrs. Bert Shafer of Searcy, Arkansas in which she gave a narration of the death of her father, Alec. Rush, who for 4 years was a resident of this vicinity and was well and favorably known. He was a good neighbor and a kind friend and was well liked by all who knew him and with sadness and regret we learn of his passing away. He had been in failing health for the past year, his ailment being dropsy on which he was a patient sufferer. His death occurred suddenly in the depot at Joplin, Mo while he and his wife and two little sons were en route to Ft. Scott, Kansas, where they expected to remain for an indefinite time in hopes that the change of climate would benefit hiis health. He was the only son of Luny and Sallie Ruth and was born in Montgomery County, Ind, May 16, 1851 and was called to his reward Saturday, December 23, 1916 aged 65 years, 7 months 7 days. He was married to Anna Weir in 1873, who answered the death summons in June, 1890. Five children were born to this union, Elsie, who died in Missouri at age 3 and Orpha, who died February 18, 1901, aged 27 years. The surviving children are Mrs. Dora Childers of McFall, Missouri, Mrs. Una Kennedy of Indianapolis and Mrs. Susie Shafer of Searcy, Arkansas. He was again married to Miss Eunice Branch on March 27, 1891, who preceded him in death August 8, 1908. On April 2, 1909, he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Vail, who with two little sons, Lawrence and Raymond, 4 and 5, are left with many relatives to mourn their loss. Two sisters Mrs. Chairty Beal and Miss Susie Gault are deceased. Mr. Rush was a member of the Browns Valley Bpatist Church and member of the IOOF Lodge at New Market which order had charge of the funeral. The burial was made at Searcy.
